Privacy.
HyperArc is a Mac app that searches your media. Your files stay on your machine. We never see them.
01What we don't collect
- We never see your files — videos, photos, audio, PDFs.
- We never see file names, file paths, or folder paths.
- We never see your Gemini API key.
- We never see the text of your search queries.
- No account, no sign-up, no login.
- No tracking pixels, no ad scripts.
We do collect a small amount of anonymous usage analytics to understand how the app is used and improve it. You can disable it anytime in the app. See §07 for the full breakdown.
02How it works
HyperArc runs entirely on your Mac. When you add a folder, the app reads it locally, generates search embeddings by calling the Google Gemini API with your key, and stores the result in a local SQLite database on your machine. Every search happens offline against that local database.
The only time HyperArc talks to the internet is when it sends data to Google's Gemini API — with your key, from your Mac. Google's handling of that request is governed by their API Terms of Service.
03Local storage
- Embeddings and metadata live in a local SQLite database on your Mac.
- Your Gemini API key lives in the macOS Keychain, encrypted by the OS.
- Your license key lives in the macOS Keychain too.
- Delete all of it anytime by removing the app and its data folder.
04License verification
When you activate HyperArc, the app checks your license with our payment provider (Lemon Squeezy). That request carries only the license key — no files, no usage data.
05Website
hyperarc.app doesn't use tracking cookies. We may use privacy-friendly analytics to see aggregate page views. We don't sell or share personal data.
06Third-party services
- Google Gemini API — generates embeddings. Governed by your agreement with Google.
- Lemon Squeezy — processes payments and license keys. Governed by Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy.
07Anonymous usage analytics
To understand how HyperArc is used and improve the product, the app sends a small amount of anonymous usage data to PostHog, our analytics processor. This is opt-in by default; you can disable it at any time from Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data.
What we collect:
- Anonymous events describing how you interact with HyperArc — e.g. “scan started”, “search performed”, “result clicked”.
- Counts and durations — e.g. “scan included 30 files and took 4 minutes”, “search returned 12 results in 0.4 seconds”.
- File-type categories only — e.g. “PDF”, “video”, “audio”. Not file names. Not contents.
- App version, macOS version, and a randomly generated installation ID stored only on your Mac.
What we don't collect:
- File names, file paths, or folder paths.
- The text of your search queries.
- File contents — audio, video, images, or document text.
- Embeddings or anything derived from your file contents.
- Your name, email address, IP address (discarded server-side), or any other personally identifying information.
- Hardware identifiers, MAC address, serial number, or anything that could re-identify you across reinstalls.
If you activate a paid license, the app additionally aliases your anonymous installation ID to a one-way SHA-256 hash of your license key so that the same paying user shows up as one cohort across multiple Macs. PostHog only stores the hash, not the license key itself.
We do not use this data for advertising, do not share it with third parties, and do not sell it.
08Children
HyperArc isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal info from children.
09Changes
We may update this policy. Changes land on this page with a new effective date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
